Alfredo Marquez
Alfredo Marquez is a visual artist, architectural designer, and cultural operator. He studied Architecture and Urbanism, Ricardo Palma University (1980-1987). From 1984 to the present he has been developing self-taught experiences in art and collective work in design, drawing, photocopy art, photo-serigraphy, painting, computer-assisted design, scenography, ephemeral architecture, settings, installations, photography and video in independent workshops. His work is inscribed within the subway movement, urban pop art, and Lima’s counterculture; concerned with the politics of image and symbolic power.
He has actively participated in the formation of independent creation and work collectives such as BESTIARIOS (1984-1987), TALLER NN (1988-1991), MADE IN PERU (1992-1994), PERUFABRICA (1999-2003) and in the gestation and development of collective projects such as Tupac*Caput (2001-2002), A Imagen y Semejanza (2001-2003) and Vestigio Barroco (2005-2011).
He has also participated and participates in local exhibition projects in different cities of Peru and in international projects such as the 3rd Biennial of Havana, Cuba (1989); II National Biennial of Lima and 3rd Ibero-American Biennial of Lima, Peru (2000 and 2002); 7th Biennial of Cuenca, Ecuador (2001); I Encounter between two Seas Biennial of Sao Paulo – Biennial of Valencia (2007); V International Biennial of Art SIART La Paz, Bolivia (2007); 1st Biennial of Latin American Art of the Bronx, USA (2008); 1st Biennial of Latin American Art of La Paz, Bolivia (2007); 1st Biennial of Latin American Art of the Bronx, USA (2008); 1st Biennial of Latin American Art of the Bronx, USA (2008); 1st Biennial of Latin American Art of the Bronx, USA (2008).
